One shot in renewed Nkonya-Alavanyo clash

The victim, who has been described as the Odikro of the town, is seriously wounded and currently in critical condition at the hospital.

One person has been shot at Alavanyo Agorme in the Volta Region following what can be described as a renewal of the longstanding Alavanyo-Nkonya conflict.

The victim, who has been described as the Odikro of the town, is seriously wounded and currently in critical condition at the Margaret Marquart Catholic Hospital at Kpando.

Eyewitnesses said that there was sporadic shooting by some unknown persons in the town on Sunday afternoon and the bullet allegedly hit the 52-year-old when he tried to run indoors.

The Kpando Divisional Police Command has begun investigations into the matter. No arrest has yet been made.

There was a review of a dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on the area recently following renewed clashes over a piece of land which the two sides have been fighting over for almost a century.

Renewed clashes between the feuding factions of Alavanyo and Nkonya in May and April this year resulted in the death of about six people.

The government subsequently announced a takeover of the disputed land but that seems not to have calmed matters.
